- Cook a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Drain and let cool.
- Chop broccoli into small florets and dice the onion. Slice the bacon if using and set all aside.
- In a mixing bowl, combine mayonnaise, red wine vinegar, sugar, salt, and pepper. Whisk until smooth.
- In a large bowl, combine cooled pasta and dressing. Add broccoli and onion, and mix gently. Reserve bacon for later.
- Cover and chill in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours or overnight.
- Before serving, stir in crumbled bacon. Serve chilled.
